Day 1 - June 11

I spent the night before preparing to leave on the trip to New Orleans. This trip was a mission trip organized by LifeChurch.tv and we partnered with an organization that is working to rebuild the city after hurricane Katrina. Crossroads Missions was our mission partner - they are working in the inner city of New Orleans where thousands of homes were flooded and destroyed. Lots where houses existed before are cleared and new homes are built on the site. All of this is accomplished through volunteer teams and the Crossroads dedicated staff. It’s really an amazing process and these home are beautiful. I took some photos inside one of their homes still in progress.

After packing and getting the house and family ready for my absence, I managed to lay down for a couple of hours. I got up around 4:00am to get ready and head to the church where we were told to meet and load up the bus to leave by 6:30am. Everyone arrived and we had tons of equipment, supplies, luggage and lifepacks to load.

It was a long day on the bus from Oklahoma to New Orleans. We arrived at the church, Celebration Church, in Metairie by about 10:00pm and met with the staff person in charge of “hospitality” there. Toni gave us a history of the church, it’s resulting damage after the storm and an overview of our “duties” while staying there. After getting ready for bed and everything we were asleep by 11:30pm and ready to start the day at 6:00am Thursday.
