Rockets, planets and boys

Day 284 - Mar 28

We have good friends who used to be a part of our LifeGroup that asked me to paint a mural in their boys’ room. They just bought a fantastic house with one VERY large room where all three of their boys will sleep and play. One of them is on the way, but the other two have moved in and have a ton of energy and spirit. I got the oldest involved in planning the mural today and he mentioned that he’s definitely like a spaceship in the mural. After some consulation and a little time drafting out a design, I got everyone’s stamp of approval and got started on the mural. I cannot wait to see how the final product blesses this family of BOYS!

Visa gift card goodness

Day 283 - Mar 27

My mom has been very generous with me over the last year allowing me to step out and do things for people that I might not have been able to do otherwise, except of course with the grace of God, but everytime she shares a little bit of extra with me, I try to put it to really good use. Recently I was speaking with a good friend of mine whom I respect greatly. She’s trying to raise three good kids on her salary alone, working 3 jobs and still finds time to serve others in her community. I bought a Visa Gift Card for her today to hopefully put toward whatever needs she or the kids may have. I hope God uses the generosity of my mom, the spirit behind 365, and my friend’s amazing selflessness to do something HUGE with the gift card.

I love my Grandpa

Day 282 - Mar 26

Called and talked with my Grandpa for about an hour on my lunch break today. You wouldn’t think calling your grandpa would qualify as a service project, you’re supposed to call anyway, right? But I had consistently forgotten to call over and over and he’s been in and out of the hospital recently. I set myself a deadline for calling and fulfilled it today. The next project is making sure I do it a LOT more often.

NW OKC Campus Clean Up

Day 141 - Nov 1

Ryan and I are leading a MicroMission on Saturday November 8th at the NW Oklahoma City campus of LifeChurch.tv. He asked me to help put together some signage for the table in the lobby of the campus on Sunday. We went shopping for supplies and then created the signs. I’ll be there in the morning to help him recruit volunteers.

Halloween isn’t much fun without kids

Day 140 - Oct 31

Ryan and I have volunteered on Halloween at carnivals in the past, we’ve been out with our neice in Houston to celebrate, and one year before we moved here we dressed up and went out to two separate parties. That was the old days. Here in Oklahoma we’ve discovered Halloween isn’t as much fun without kids around. Friends of ours with kids invited us out, but we were really too tired at the end of the week. While we ate dinner I handed out candy to about 10 neighborhood kids, but that was all we had visit. It’s good we don’t need to buy much candy.

Before I went home for trick-or-treating I spent some time working on a friend’s blog and putting together some instruction for editing it. She has been patient with me and an encouragement during difficult times. She paid me to put the blog together for her, so I just spent time on this tonight without billing her.

Thursday

Day 139 - Oct 30

I put invitation cards and wrist bands to our latest series at LifeChurch.tv “Practical Atheist” in the neighbors’ mailboxes today. I’m not sure what they will make of them, but perhaps someone will be challenged and will decide to see what LifeChurch.tv is all about.

Saturday was a day for us

Day 74 - Aug 23

Saturday was spent on me and my family. It was one of those days that I had not had in a very long time - the weather was very nice, I was feeling good, and there were no other service opportunities on the calendar. I decided that I’d clean the garage, and while I was at it, or before I cleaned it, I decided to make a mess. One of my hobbies is woodworking - or I should say rough furniture building. I’ve built some nice pieces for the house, too, but lately I’ve been into building outdoor furniture for the back porch. The weather in Oklahoma is fantastic for sitting outside and reading or playing with the dogs. I will even attend church online outside. I had some wood in the garage and wanted a table, which I then decided could actually be a potting bench. That’s what I built. I spent about 8 hours outside working on the bench. I made dinner (Lettuce wraps, so I’ll include the recipe when I can. They were SO good). Then I put away all the junk that had piled up in the garage and cleaned it. I want it to be a nice place to go to for various reasons, but the cats live out there most of the year so I don’t like it to be dirty for them. That was my day. Ryan was appreciative of dinner and the clean garage. That makes me happy.
